Hey everyone! Happy Halloween! Hope you liked the video. Small correction, I used the word lauded incorrectly. Calling myself out on this one. Slipped by my mind until I rewatched it. Have a great week!

I REALLY want Disney to do something like this again. Particularly with the whole villian theme. Perhaps not quite this dark but I don't think you can appreciate the magic as much without some horror to balance it. As a small child, I was terrified by the Monstro animatronic in Pinnochio's Daring Journey but I went on that ride every time I went to Disney because the scares make the happy endings that much more enjoyable. This constant fluff we're starting to see all the time is a little disappointing.

I thought the 'Programmed not to mention WW2' thing was kinda funny, but did that narrator need to say 'They're not buying our cars' twice in that clip? That wasn't funny the first time he said it.

I think the most important takeaway from this is: There's a Horned King Animatronic. It may be stripped now, but hot dang. That's a crazy thing to see. Wonder if they could ever recreate it for another attraction? Most people don't know where the characters on Splash Mountain are from, I could see them using Black Cauldron characters for a future scary attraction if they wanted to push that envelop again. (And considering Tower of Terror, Alien Encounter, etc. they totally could.)

Given how much it draws from 80s fantasy, I wonder how much the Lich from Adventure Time was aesthetically inspired by The Horned King. Because when I see that animatronic I think "You are strong, child. But I am beyond strength..." Also, like this post if you wish that they'd make The Horned King a secret boss in a Kingdom Hearts game. Or, for that matter, that they'd make Return To Oz a level in a Kingdom Hearts game...

Being the kid who got to hold the sword and be the hero sounds like it must have been the closest anyone could get to living a classic adventure, which the horror must have really strengthened like it does in eighties adventure movies. Usually. I'm unimpressed with Disney attractions that seem like safe and straight forward entertainment spots, while everyone lauds it all as the most magical place on earth (which is really sad if that's the case). But with an attraction like this ,any kid who got to go through that must have actually felt like they were experiencing magic.

So excited to see this! I lived in Japan from 2004 to 2005 and went on this a few times while I was there (I was close enough to the Tokyo Disney Resort to invest in an Annual Pass!). I kept visiting Japan at least once a year since I returned home to the US in 2005, and I remember when they announced they were closing this attraction. I was so sad to hear it, but I made sure to go back and visit it before its closure. I was one of the last groups in for the night I visited! I was taking pics of the sign outside, and a kind cast member asked me if I wanted a pic of myself with the sign. So I have a pic of myself standing next to the sign with the holographic image of the magic mirror the last time I ever got to experience the attraction. :) Truly a unique attraction, and thank you for featuring it on your channel!!

It's so sad how badly Disney has treated The Black Cauldron. Fans have been begging for a decent home release (especially with the deleted footage restored) for decades. Just today it was announced that there is a blu-ray box set of every Disney animated feature up to 2018 for the holidays BUT there is a little asterisk stating that The Black Cauldron wouldn't be a blu-ray but an old DVD (which itself was probably an old laserdisc transfer). So instead of getting a proper transfer or even just an HD transfer, the movie gets shafted once again. And the worst part is, the Black Cauldron was the only other Disney animated movie made for 70mm besides Sleeping Beauty. It would benefit the most from a proper restoration/transfer compared to any other post-Sleeping Beautry feature when Disney switched to cheaper techniques.

I taught English in Japan in the mid 2000s. I remember thinking this was a tour of the castle and was pretty shocked about everything. I guess I looked Japanese so wasn’t warned about the tour. I understood a little less than half of what the guide said, and I asked the guide if there was an English translation. She sent me to guest relations where they made me wait forever only to get turned away empty-handed. It really was a unique “ride” and that dragon and skull king was pretty awesome!

“...the most terrifying anything to ever appear in a Disney anything.” No, wrong. That is not the most terrifying thing to be said in a Disney anything. You forgot about that time that Michael Eisner said everything would be fine because it’s Disney and the name will carry any project through. Any businessperson knows that’s a prophecy declaring “the ship’s about to start sinking, we’re going to lose money, every imagineer for himself.”

Damn what a shame this is gone. This looks incredible! The whole sword of light bit is amazing. I couldn't imagine being a kid in Japan when this first came out. Imagine you had just played The Legend of Zelda for the first time then you go on this and you get the sword of light and all that! It really fits perfectly to that game. I hope with Universal doing a Zelda attraction that they do something like this. Particularly the part with giving a kid the Master Sword or something like that. It would be really magical.

This video couldn't have had better timing! I JUST heard about this attraction like 4 days ago fro ma TPMvids video. I spent like an hour trying to find a walkthrough with subtitles. It was hard to know what was going on, because the video footage was all so dark and blurry and in Japanese. Once again Kevin swings in to the rescue and does more research than my patience will allow and presents it in the most professional way possible!

I really love The Black Cauldron. One of my favorites that I was scared by but loved. Also, my grandma got me into the book series and then I was like, "Redo this please, Disney!!! I want more!!!" Seeing it get so much hate is sad. At least the film could inspire kids to read the series and go from there. But pretending it doesn't exist? Sad. The books ARE better but, I still love the film.

It's weird that they thought the magic mirror would be unrecognizable if he was played by a Japanese actor. The mask-face is kinda ethnically ambiguous anyway, but the makeup they put on the actor looks almost like kabuki theater stuff...I don't think under all that facepaint the ethnicity of the actor is very recognizable. And honestly...if I'd seen a picture of that makeup job out of context it would not have been immediately obvious to me that it was supposed to look like the mask in the Disney movie.

This attraction looks so cool and fun! It definitely would’ve terrified me as a kid, as I was afraid of Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean until I was maybe 13. As a 19 year old now, I would love this villain-centric attraction and take it over Cinderella’s Royal Table any day

My sisters and I loved The Black Cauldron when we were kids. We weren’t scared of it at all (the boob tree from The Last Unicorn scared us more), and we hate that Disney doesn’t acknowledge to this day. It says something when they give Song of the South it’s own unique ride but not even an ounce of merchandise for this movie. And if they did, I have better chances of winning the lottery.

while alien encounter will almost always be my favorite closed scary Disney attraction, THIS JUST SHOT STRAIGHT TO #2!!! if only Disney had a HHN style thing with scary (and potentially defunct) attractions. call it after dark rides or something, put this under the castle, bring ETAE back, and have emphasis on rides like Haunted Mansion, Tower of terror, and other spooky rides which would either be unchanged or have an adult overlay. this woold essentially take place during the week nights of October with Mickey's not so scary being on the weekends. if only...

I LOVE the Black Cauldron. It was a major movie when released and was advertised extensively in the UK. They even had collectible figurines in cornflakes. I saw it in the cinema and couldn't believe it was a Disney film. It was awesome. I watched it again about a year ago, and it's so painfully obvious it was cut to shreds. It would have been epic if it had been untouched. It's still one of my favourite Disney films, along with watcher in the woods, the black hole and that entire era of Disney "experiments"

This is WHY, the Disney Parks over seas is on my bucket list. Example (DL Paris says we want a Space Mountain (but not the one like in America) No, I never knew about this attraction, so the part with the horned king appeared (my mouth was wide opened in stunned disbelief) Walt often during a traumatic scene in a movie (Ol' Yeller for instance would put a "wink" in there (like to ketch your breath) Yes! That was dark for Disney. Even darker than the Hell scene in Mister Toads Wild Ride. And, Yes! I did see Black Cauldron, Great Mouse Detective & Oliver & Company after the 9 old men transition. Don Bluth went on to make An American Tail, Secret of Nihm, Dinosaurs We're Back! etc. I soooo look forward to your videos!
